2006-04-20 — Hanover Township, PA - Officials at Bright Star Lighting Products announce the introduction of the LightHawk™ - the first ever lantern powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and the lightest fire lantern available today. At just 2.2 lbs, it's up to 33% lighter than popular competitive lanterns.
Despite the name, the LightHawk isn't a lightweight when it comes to performance, safety and durability. The lantern is uniquely equipped with a foursome of strategically configured, pulsing red and white LED taillights. Bright Star Sales & Marketing Director Matt Malcolm explains, "The LED colors, flash pattern and flash speed were all strategically chosen because of their increased visibility to the human eye. This patterned LED module will greatly benefit a wide range of public safety professionals " from firefighters trying to locate fellow firefighters in poorly-lit, smoke-filled environments to public safety and rescue professionals on the scene of a highway accident at night."
The light's high-powered primary xenon bulb, combined with the LED taillights, provides firefighters with unparalleled brightness and smoke cutting ability. Ensuring firefighters won't be left in the dark is the LightHawk's low-battery indicator, another lantern first from Bright Star, which reveals when 30 minutes of power remains.
The LightHawk is equipped with additional features and attributes that will help to establish it as the new standard in professional fire lanterns.
o 90-degree articulating head for greater lighting flexibility
o Three position toggle switch (choose between primary light only or primary light and LED taillights); inset switch prevents accidental activation
o Super-tough, chemical- and heat-resistant and waterproof nylon casing
o Ergonomic, ribbed texture handle ensures a sure grip, even with gloves
o Rubberized head, handle and base for shock absorbency
o Class I, Division 2 safety rated (pending)
Three LightHawk models are available: 4-cell, 6-cell and 8-cell. The 4- and 6-cell versions deliver 264 lumens of power using a 12-watt xenon bulb for 2.5 and 3.5 hours, respectively. The 8-cell model, which exchanges power for runtime, provides a significant level of light - 104 lumens - for 10 continuous hours using a 5-watt dual filament xenon bulb.
"The LightHawk is a reflection of valuable input received from leading public safety units - the New York Transit Authority and the Philadelphia Fire Department, just to name a few," Malcolm explains. "We heard their need for a lightweight, high performance lantern equipped with highly visible taillights that could provide enough runtime for an entire shift. From that feedback came the LightHawk - a solutions-based tool that meets the needs of a wide range of firefighters and other public safety professionals.
According to Malcolm, the introduction of the LightHawk marks another pioneering first for the company. "As the designer behind the LightHawk - the world's lightest and first ever lithium-ion lantern, we are proud to once again introduce another first in the fire market. It's innovations like the LightHawk that fortify our position as the first name in flashlights."
Even though the LightHawk is the most advanced professional lighting innovation serving the fire market, it is competitively priced with other fire lanterns on the market today. The light is available exclusively through professional distributors. Measuring 9.5" long, 3.125" in diameter and 5.125" in height, the light is backed by a lifetime warranty, guaranteeing against defects in materials or workmanship for the life of the product.
